Girish Khatiwada is a pioneering Nepali rapper, radio personality, and vlogger. Born on August 30, 1979 in Biratnagar, Nepal, he is considered the first rapper in the country and has been dubbed the “Godfather of Nephop” by The Diplomat Magazine.
Khatiwada started his musical journey at the young age of 15 in 1994 with his first track “Meaningless Rap.” He later formed a duo called GP with Pranil Timalsena and helped establish the new Nepali music genre “Nep hop” or “Lok Hop” in the late 1990s.
Known for his unique style and meaningful lyrics, Girish Khatiwada has released numerous popular songs like “Ma Yesto Chu Ma Testo Chu,” “Timi Jaha Pani Janchau,” “Malai Vote Deu,” and “Haami Dherai Saana Chhau.” He has also been active in the Nepali vlogging scene, making him a multi-talented artist.
Despite taking a break to pursue higher studies in the United States, Khatiwada returned to Nepal in 2013 to continue his music career. He is currently married to Jyoti Ranabhat and remains a prominent figure in the Nepali music industry, inspiring the next generation of rappers.
