Ayush Gauchan, born on June 10th, 2002, is a Nepalese singer-songwriter hailing from Kathmandu. He discovered his passion for music at a tender age of 16 and began composing his own songs. In early 2021, Gauchan independently released his debut single titled “Maya,” a project that took him a year to complete and officially launch. Some of his notable works include “Maya,” “One More Time,” and “Mero Prarthana.”
Early Life and Education
Gauchan was born and raised in Kathmandu, Nepal. During his early childhood, he spent a significant amount of time gaming at local internet cafes. At the age of 13, he realized his deep-rooted passion for music, which he avidly pursued, eventually blossoming into a musical sensation in Nepal. Gauchan completed his primary education at Chand Bagh School and continued his secondary schooling at Ace Higher Secondary School. Although his academic performance was not exceptional, he took a break after high school to focus on his musical career. During this time, he dedicated himself wholeheartedly to songwriting, production, and composition.
Career Beginnings:
Gauchan kickstarted his musical journey by volunteering his talents at various school festivals and carnivals. Gradually, he built a small but devoted fan base. In his early years in the music industry, he primarily focused on playing the rhythm guitar and gradually discovered his passion for songwriting and production. He released his first song, “Mero Prarthana,” and later achieved a breakthrough with his single “Maya” in early 2021.
“Maya” – The Breakthrough:
On January 20, 2021, Ayush Gauchan independently released his breakthrough single, “Maya.” It quickly became his best-selling single, and according to Spotify’s editorial chart, has crossed four million plays to date. The album is listed as the 5th most played single in Nepal and was the 14th most played single of 2021 in India. An instrumental version containing the instrumental was released on January 20, 2022. The song was inspired by a subsequent breakup.
The audio for “Maya” was produced by Sanjv and Storenutter (Class X Presentation), and the music video was directed, edited, and colored by Mr. GM. The cinematography was directed by Mr. GM and Bhuchung Sherap, with production managed by Abiral Bhujel. The song featured Yanzee Sherpa and Ayush Gauchan as the cast members.
Other Notable Works
In addition to his breakthrough hit “Maya,” Gauchan has released other notable songs, including “One More Time” (2020) and “Mero Prarthana” (2020), which, although not as popular as “Maya,” are still regarded as masterpieces by his die-hard fans.
